Text from Home page:
Barnes
Aid "Do They Know It's Christmas" is
a 2 track CD. We recorded it in less than 24 hours with the idea
being to
donate all monies raised to The Band Aid Trust. The second track
on the CD is "Red" and
was written in Sept 2001 around the time of the World Trade Centre
Massacre.

ok
.. How it started ...
This
whole idea came about during a Party at Dave Barrett and
Caroline Wilson's house.
Dave and I decided it would be a fine idea to issue everyone with a line from “Do
They Know Its Christmas” for a bit of a sing song! This ended up being
a laugh and it dawned on us that it would be brilliant to record and we decided
to begin the next day. Welshy Davy Baaa then suggested everyone coughing up
a tenner for the privilege and donating the proceeds to charity. This was agreed,
lines were picked and it became apparent that more than one of us wanted the
Bono line. To solve the ensuing conflict, the Welsh one suggested an Auction.
This was held and the line went for a stunning forty quid!! (er .. to Me!)
The next day we all went our separate ways and I commenced work on the backing
track. By 3pm we were ready for the first vocal. Welsh Dave was first up and
during the course of the afternoon we had numerous locals crooning away like
the stars they are. Over the next couple of days, everyone managed to get in
to do their part and by Wednesday the song was ready for its first airing,
in the pub obviously.
By Friday, though a little late for the Christmas number one, we had permission
from the Band Aid trust to sell the CD and duplication commenced. Everyone
has done their part from printing to trimming to CD duplication to accounting
and generally spreading the good word. Best of all we’ve all really enjoyed
doing it and are incredibly proud of the result.
Enjoy the single!

NEWS
UPDATE 28TH DEC 2004 - 16.45
Yesterday,
we recieved a phone call from BBC Radio Humberside who wanted
to produce a small piece about the project. News quickly spread
and by 11.30 the majority of the "stars" were in
the pub drinking COFFEE!! (a first!).
No sooner had the interview finished, BBC Television decided they didnt want
to miss out and turned up to do another piece. Fortunatley, we had an hour
or so inbetween the two spots and rehearsed a faultless live version of the
song which we were only too happy to perform. Unfortunately, our very own Welshy
Dave was visiting the homeland (er..Wales) and couldnt make it. Considering
Dave had so much to do with the charity concept its a shame.
NEWS
UPDATE 29TH DEC 2004 - 17.42 Since
going out on BBC Radio Humberside and BBC Look North today
we have recieved a kind offer to reproduce our CD's. "Golden
Media Productions" are providing the CD, CD printing and
jewel case at material cost only. Their duplication, printing
and labour costs are being provided free of charge, which is
working out very cost effective (AND Dave Barratt can do something
a little less tedious with his time!). On behalf of Barnes
Aid I would like to thank Chris Gould for his generous offer.
For further information about Golden Media Productions, visit
their website at www.goldenmedia.co.uk
WE
ARE STILL IN NEED OF A PRINTER FOR THE CD COVER!
The
Press Association have been out today to interview and film
us and although there were only 9 of us available, it went
fairly smoothly. The Highlight of the interview was the interviewers
faces when Dave Barratt announced he was going on the X factor.
hehe funny m8.
Oh
and ITV are coming tommorrow. Their camera's are bigger than
the Beebs apparently. Tip Top!
NEWS
UPDATE 30TH DEC 2004 - 18.20
The
day started off today with a knock on my door from Kieron.
"We're
in the Sun!!".
The Sun newspaper had picked up on
the Press Association Wire and ran a small story on our cause!
National Press non the
less! read it here
As
is quickly becoming the norm, we were once again in the pub today
for 11.00am (My Mothers going to kill me!). The lunchtime filiming
session went well and the interviews provided much cause for
amusement amongst ourselves. AHA!!
Their Camera was indeed bigger!! In addition to ITV, we also
had a call from BBC Radio Newcastle requesting another interview.
I got this one and the results can be heard in the MEDIA section
of the site.
Kieron then got a call from British Forces Radio
and proceeded to conduct an interview with them to be broadcast round the world!
(The Sun who?)
I
have been working most of the day to get this site up and running.
I'll tart it up a bit when i have a little more time!
More
on its way is it happens!!

NEWS
UPDATE 2nd JAN 2005 - 10.20
HAPPY
NEW YEAR FROM BARNES AID!!
Welshy
Davey Baaah has returned from the homeland. That in itself is
top News! er .... honest!
Down
to propper news, we have hit £1000!!!!! What else is there to
say! There's still orders coming in so the figure is changing
daily. The Ebay auction is going well and is currently at £107.00.
Someone did take it up to £112 but then retracted their Bid.
Shame.
18
Months Later ....
Well,
what can I say. We finally got to meet the man himself. Midge
Ure kindly agreed to accept our hard earned money and came
down to Howden especially to recieve it, though he did go on
to play an acoustic set at the Shire Hall afterwards.
SO,
whats been happening? Well we did actually go on to record a
version of Lou Reeds Perfect Day fairly much straight after the
Christmas one. We had a lot more time to do this, and the finished
article is splendid, even if I do say so myself!
28
of us sang on this one and I have to say the quality of the performances,
bearing in mind there were only a couple of "singers" in the
pub, was outstanding. There are some classic lines such as John
Edwards "such a puyfect day" and Oliver Drew's outstanding "Just
a perfect day", not to mention Mark the foot's quality ad libs
at the end. Brilliant, just brilliant!
Sadly
though, I think alot of people lost interest after recording
this and Its sat on my Hard Drive gathering dust until a couple
of days ago. Also, probably a significant factor in doing nothing
with it, was that I moved away from Howden back up to the North
East, taking my Studio with me. Dave Barrett and I, have finished
artwork and have created packaging for the new one, so its ready
to roll if we ever wanted to roll it! I dont however have any
permission from anyone to sell it, or even to record it for that
matter so unfortunately, at the moment, I cant dish out copies.
Buuuuuuuuuuut, who knows eh?
Speaking
to Dave Barrett recently, it transpired that Welshy Davy Baa
had heard about Midge Ure coming to play a gig in Howden and
contacted the organisers with a view to presenting Midge with
the cheque. Dave (Davies) succeeded in doing this and a time
was organised. There was supposed to be Myself, Kieron, Dave
Barrett and Davy "baa" Davies meeting Midge at 6.30 for the presentation.
Typically though, Dave Davies turned up 10 mins late and missed
it! Really sorry about that, he has been so instrumental in the
whole thing, but has missed just about everything we've done!
So
anyway, we gave Midge the cheque (big flappy one AND a real one!)
infront of the Goole Times photographer and that was that, a
fantastic end to what has been an amazing experience.
Personally,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved.
I enjoyed this whole experience immensley and made some great
friends through it. Especially thanks to Dave Barrett and Caroline
Wilson for the party and the stupid Ideas, Welsh Davy Baa Davies
for the Idea of raising Money for Charity AND for organising
the Midge Ure thing AND for missing all the TV, Radio and anything
to do with getting something back from this, and Kieron for supplying
Liquid for talent enhancing purpouses.
Although we did this FOR
the Band Aid Trust, I would like to add a thanks
to
them
for
granting
permission
to
murder
Bob
and
Midges Classic! I would also like to thank Midge for forwarding
my email to the Band Aid Trust in the first place, and also for
taking
the
time
to recieve the cheque and pose for the photo.
Lastly,
I have created a section for Barnes Aid II, though what the future
holds for that, I have no Idea.
Cheers,
and good wishes to all.

Andy
